11 corpers to repeat service, 15 get extension

No fewer than 12 corps members in Gombe, Sokoto, Kogi States and Yobe States were on Thursday asked to repeat the mandatory one-year service while 15 others got their service year extended for various offences.

The sanctions were announced at the passing-out ceremonies organised by the National Youth Service Corps for the 2021 Batch B Stream 2 corps members in the affected states.

 Gombe State

The Gombe State NYSC Coordinator, Ada Imoni, while commending those who completed their service, urged them to uphold the ideals of the NYSC by being good ambassadors of the scheme as they commence the next phase of their lives.

“A total of 445 Corps members are set to pass out today in Gombe State, out of which three absconded from service and six got extension of service for various offences committed,” Imoni said.

Sokoto State

In Sokoto State, five corps members will repeat their service year, while three others have their service extended for misconducts.

The  state NYSC Coordinator, Alhaji Muhammad Nakamba, said the affected corps members were sanctioned for various offences.

He noted that a total of 537 corps members passed out, two of them received the prestigious Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar awards for their outstanding contribution towards uplifting the living standard of their host communities.

Kogi State

The NYSC in Kogi State sanctioned nine corps members.

The state coordinator, Mrs Mofoluwasho Williams, disclosed this in Lokoja.

She explained that three of the corps members only came to Kogi, registered and absconded but that they must come back and serve, while six had their services extended for various offences.

She said, “Out of the 699 members passing out today, two of them excelled and bagged the award of Gov. Yahaya Bello.

“We thank God that 690 of the members successfully completed their service year and will be passing out.”

Yobe State

In Yobe State, one corps member is to repeat the service year for absconding from his place of primary assignment.

The state coordinator, Mrs Hafsat Yerima, disclosed this.

The News Agency of Nigeria quoted Yerima as saying that 689 corps members completed their service.

She commended the corps members for their stellar performance during the service year.

She said the performance was evident in the number of Community Development Service projects they executed across the communities of the state, and prayed for success in their future undertakings.

 Abia State

In Abia State, a total of 736 corps members completed their one-year service.

NAN quoted NYSC Coordinator, Mr Julius Ekeh, as saying this on Thursday.

Ekeh said that the ceremony was low-keyed as a result of the directives from the scheme’s management, following the current security challenges in the country.
