30,000 repentant insurgents not lured with money, other rewards- Zulum
The Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has said no fewer than 30,000 members of the Boko Haram and the Islamic State for West African Province have surrendered since September 2021.
The governor, who disclosed this on Thursday shortly after a meeting with the president, Muhammadu Buhari, stated that the repentant terrorists were not lured with money or other promised rewards.
He assured Nigerians that the 12 year Boko Haram insurgence in the North-East will be over before the 2023 general elections.
He stated, “The ongoing, massive defection of Boko Haram members, this time around has started with a defection of ISWAP members. This is a welcome development.
“The way we are going, with the support of the Federal Government with good management, Boko Haram will be over soon”.
“But you also have to understand one essential thing; there is a difference between those that have been captured and those that have surrendered. People should understand these two un-identical situations.
