5 worst food for your eye

Do you know that the foods you eat affect the performance of your eyes? Of course they do. Our eyes receive nourishment from our blood.

Blood passes through the tiny capillaries that are in the eyes to carry nutrients to the eyes. The quality of our food affects our eye’s performance.

Let’s see the kinds of food that may harm our eyes:

1. Foods containing trans fats.

Those salad dressings, mayonnaise and other fatty condiments that we store at the door of our fridges are dangerous for our eyes.

They contain trans fats which may block the tiny blood vessels that carry blood to the eyes. Any food containing trans fats is not eye friendly.

Instead of these, we can prepare home made peanut butter, coconut butter , fresh lemon juice for our salad dressings.

2. Saturated fats.

Saturated fats that can be gotten from red meat and diary products are not good for the eyes. Eyes experts say that saturated fats may block the tiny blood capillaries that carry blood to the eyes.

Instead of these foods, go for fish, chicken, turkey. These foods contain healthy omega 3 fatty acids which are good for the health of your heart and eyes.

Also choose nuts, avocados and seeds because they contains healthy oils. Remember that we did not condemn red meat or milk and other diary products entirely.

Only make sure that you avoid those meat portions that are high in fats. Also limit your consumption of full fat diary products because of the saturated fats in them.

3. White or plain coloured meals

White rice and white bread comprise mainly of carbohydrates that is empty calories. They do not contain nutrients that the eyes needs if taken alone.

Try to add other condiments such as carrots, tomatoes, green vegetables, banana etc. Some of these foods contain beta carotene or lycopene, or vitamin c.

The colourful nutrients in food like watermelon, tomatoes, carrot, paw paw, potatoes etc are important nutrients which is needed by our eyes.

4. Margarines.

Margarines are seen as healthy alternatives to butter but they contains trans fats. Trans fats makes them unsuitable for our eyes.

Experts believe that these fats can block the tiny blood vessels that carry blood to our eyes. You may rather replace margarines with natural oils such as coconut, olive oil avocado etc.

5. Fatty meats.

Fatty meats and canned meats such as bacon, sausage, corned beef, hotdogs etc are delicious but they contain saturated fats and are not recommended for our body.
