Artisan impersonates Oba Elegushi, dupes lady of N51m

A 26 year old painter, Moses Olaitan who used the names and pictures of Oba Saheed Elegushi of Ikate land to dupe a United Kingdom based lady of N51 million with the pretense of marrying her, has been arrested.

He was paraded yesterday by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu at the command headquarters Ikeja.

The suspect was arrested alongside his accomplice, one Segun Olushola (48) for proving the bank account used in receiving the money from the lady.

According to Olaitan, he was going through his Facebook account when he came across the lady’s profile and discovered that she’s rich.

He said, the only way he could get money from her was to use a popular monarch in Lagos to get her.

He said, “Before then i had some pictures of Oba Saheed Elegushi on my Facebook, i downloaded more and changed my profile to suit the purpose of what i wanted to do, then i sent a friend request to her, which she accepted and we became friends. We chatted everyday.

“One fateful day, i told her she is beautiful and wanted to marry her. And the only thing that would stop me from marrying her is if she fails to perform some traditional rites and it would cost us a lot of money, which she agreed to perform.

“She said she loves me and promised to do whatever i asked her to do. I told her it would cost us 51 million naira and she obliged to send the money to me”.

He said, surprisingly, he was sleeping one fateful day  when he received a phone call from her that he should send his account details.

Olaitan said, “I don’t have account number, the first person that came to my mind was Mr. Segun and i went to him and explained what i wanted to use the account for and i promised to give him out of the money after receiving it. A week after, she sent the money into the account i provided and i gave Segun N2.1 million while i took the remaining money”.
