Super Eagles Defender ‘Zaidu Sanusi’ to Leave FC Porto This Summer – Gernot Rohr
Super Eagles defender, Zaidu Sanusi is expected to leave Portuguese side FC Porto before the end of the transfer window, according to Head coach, Gernot Rohr.
Sanusi replaced Elderson Echiejile as Nigeria’s first choice defender after the NFF got tired of Echiejile’s lack of form and fitness for club and country in 2017.
He has been a top player for Porto in the last two seasons and even started Porto’s first game of the campaign, a 2-0 win against Belenenses.
But he is now out of favour at the club and was not named in the matchday squad for Sunday’s 1-1 away draw at Maritimo following the arrival of Brazilian left-back Wendell.
According to Rohr, Wendell’s arrival means the club coach Sergio Conceicao could push Sanusi towards the exit door as the player wants game time ahead of an upcoming Nations cup and the world cup qualifiers with the Super Eagles.
“Out of Sergio Conceição’s choice for the last round match against Marítimo, he (Sanusi) stayed on the bench. Zaidu will leave FC Porto in this summer transfer market,” Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr told reporters.
