2023: Those ambitious to rule Nigeria should have a re-think- NADECO
National Democratic Coalition, NADECO, yesterday, said politicians jostling to emerge as President in 2023, under the present 1999 Constitution, are not sensible.
NADECO spokesperson, Mr. Ayo Opadokun described politicians positioning themselves for 2023 as ‘misdirected or being misguided’.
What we believe that concerns Nigerians are that Nigeria must return to federal constitutional governance. This is the constitution upon which Nigeria secured its independence. It was negotiated by ethnic nationalities and our political leaders, at that time.
All the elections that have taken place since 1999, what impact have they had on our people? Except those of them, who got into offices because of the nature of the Decree called the 1999 Constitution which appropriated all our commonwealth to the centre?
‘It enables most of them, who got into office by whatever means, to have the key to the store of wealth of the state and used them to our detriment. How do you reconcile what has happened to us as a country? What the country has taught us is that they can use the form of arms to get what does not belong to them and use the force of arms to keep them permanently.
“So, honestly for us, not only we lost our sweat, our blood, our liberty and our possession, infact, some of us were determined to force the military back to the barracks. For those that have taken over, they have not had the will or consciousness to organize economic and political policies that would bring upliftment to the quality of life to our people.
