Rooney names his best Manchester United Teammate He Ever Played With

Present Derby Coach, Wayne Rooney was part of the brilliant Manchester United team that won three straight Premier League titles and reached three Champions League finals over the space of four seasons, as well as the team in the post-Ferguson era which struggled to even finish in the top four. He has seen it all and done it all at Old Trafford. And when asked by SPORTbible about his favourite player to play with, he unarguably said:

“Tevez. I just loved our connection.

“The two of us up front, we complimented each other really well.

“Normally if I played with Louis Saha, Ruud van Nistelrooy or Robin van Persie – these strikers were always the No.9 and I’d play as a No.10.

“With Tevez we could rotate, I’d be the No.9, he’d take the No.9 spot and I’d be No.10. When we lost the ball we’d be like two bulls trying to get it back.

“As a strike partner, he was the one I enjoyed playing with the most.”

While easy to forget, Manchester United had never actually signed Tevez on a permanent basis. Instead, he was only on loan from West Ham United.

Manchester United failed to complete a move for him and he would instead end up joining the club’s cross-town rivals, Manchester City, who were nowhere near the force in English football back then that they have become today.

Tevez was a key member of a Manchester United team which had lifted the Champions League, a couple of Premier League titles and several more trophies. And it is hard not to wonder how things would have turned out if they had signed the Argentine on a permanent deal.
