Why Napoli May not Sell Osimhen

Napoli are not in a position where they need the money from a transfer like Victor Osimhen, which could make it more difficult for Bayern Munich or Manchester United to secure a deal, according to football journalist Daniele Fisichella.

Over the last few weeks, Nigerian striker Osimhen has been linked with Old Trafford as the Red Devils have made little secret about targeting the 24-year-old. However, since then, German giants Bayern Munich have emerged as another suitor for the services of the Napoli forward.

While a newly re-invigorated Manchester United and a stint in the German top flight might both be appetising prospects for Osimhen, journalist Daniele Fisichella doubts that any deals will be made this summer. Fisichella explained why he does not believe Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis will budge on his reportedly massive fee for the young striker.

“De Laurentiis is one of the toughest negotiators in Italy,” Fisichella said. “I wouldn’t want to do a deal with De Laurentiis, any kind of deal. I think I might be on the losing side.

“Napoli are not in the position that they need to sell in order to fund their success. They are financially viable in the summer by selling or letting go some players. They managed to reduce their wage total.

“They really don’t have to make a lot of money. They will receive money any way by winning the Scudetto [Serie A], by qualifying for the quarter final of the Champions League even more.

“So, I think they could look at the future that actually they could strengthen the team.”

Osimhen is still under contract with Napoli for the next season. Fisichella feels that his stock will only rise between now and then if a deal is not made over the summer for his services.

“Osimhen is still tied to a contract until 2025,” Fisichella said. “So, they don’t need to sell him this summer. Maybe next summer, unless they manage to extend the deal. The price will be astronomical.”
