West Africa’s Golfers Gather in Ikeja for Acutech Pro-Am’s N15m Prize

West Africa’s golfing elite has converged at the Ikeja Golf Course for the highly anticipated second edition of the Acutech Pro-Am Golf Championship, featuring an impressive N15 million prize pool.

The championship, which commenced at the Ikeja Golf Club, heralds the start of Nigeria’s professional golf season for 2024.

Contenders for the prestigious title include Nigeria’s top professionals alongside counterparts from across West Africa, notably Ghana’s Emos Korblah, the winner of the inaugural edition, as well as Nigeria’s Francis Epe, Oche Odoh, and Mike Ubi.

Emos Korblah, expressing his anticipation for the tournament after a practice round, praised the Ikeja Golf Club course’s challenging design, emphasizing its ability to test every aspect of a golfer’s skill.

“Ikeja Golf Club is one highly underrated golf course. The course challenges every bit of your golfing skill. The fairway design and several factors will be at play this week. I always look forward to playing it, and I hope they defend this title this week,” Korblah remarked.

Zed Jituboh, Chairman of Acutech Support Systems Limited, highlighted the significance of the event as part of the company’s commitment to sports development within its operating environment.

“The Acutech Pro-Am Golf Championship is the platform we have created to help drive the development of the game of golf. We have other initiatives around golf too, but this event is solely to expose and reward our talents in professional golf,” stated Jituboh.

He further emphasized Acutech’s partnership with professional golf to administer the championship and expressed aspirations for expanding the scope of their contributions.

Uche Ezebuiro, Operations Director of the Professional Golfers’ Association, underscored the ongoing collaboration between the association and corporate entities like Acutech to foster the growth of the sport and showcase Nigeria’s golfing talents.

“This year, in the bid to align our body and operations to global best practices, we are making some tweaks here and there to afford our members a better professional golf experience. Acutech is one of our topmost development partners, and we look forward to onboarding more this season.”
