Timi Dakolo Shares Personal Journey: Raised by Grandmother Due to Young Parents’ Circumstances
Nigerian singer Timi Dakolo opens up about his childhood upbringing in an exclusive interview with media personality Taymesan Emmanuel on the Tea with Tay Podcast. Dakolo reveals the unique circumstances behind being raised by his grandmother instead of his parents.
Dakolo humorously recounts, “My parents, I don’t know why they were doing knacking at a very young age. They were very young so they didn’t know what they were doing.” He elaborates on how his parents, both in their early twenties, made the decision to leave him with his grandmother shortly after his birth.
Despite the absence of his parents, Dakolo emphasizes that he never lacked love and care, as his grandmother became his primary caregiver. He describes his grandmother’s love, discipline, and attentiveness, highlighting how she provided everything he needed without spoiling him.
Reflecting on his relationship with his grandmother, Dakolo shares, “The love, discipline, and attentiveness she gave, she always knew when something was wrong without me saying a word and she always provided.”
Dakolo also reminisces about his mother’s visits, recalling her swift discipline despite her young age. “When my mum came around she was always beating me over every small thing. My mother was still young at the time so no matter how I tried to run she caught me cause she was fast,” he laughs.
Timi Dakolo’s story sheds light on the resilience and love within unconventional family dynamics, inspiring many who may relate to similar experiences.
