FG Accuses PDP Governors of Economic Negligence, Owed Salaries, and Misinformation

The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Information and National Orientation, has criticized governors elected under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for contributing to economic hardship by failing to implement the N30,000 minimum wage and address farmers’ needs in their states.

In response to a press conference held by PDP governors, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, accused them of manipulating facts and misinforming the public about the country’s economic situation.

Idris highlighted that many states governed by PDP owe workers and pensioners months of unpaid salaries and pension arrears, and have not fully implemented the N30,000 minimum wage. He emphasized the responsibility of PDP governors to utilize increased revenue to benefit their citizens and criticized their comparison of Nigeria’s economic challenges to Venezuela.

Despite acknowledging existing challenges, Idris asserted that Nigeria’s economy remains strong, with expected GDP growth and the ability to meet financial obligations. He attributed revenue growth to reforms under President Tinubu’s administration.

The minister urged PDP governors to fulfill their obligations to workers, pensioners, and contractors to positively impact citizens’ living conditions. He expressed disappointment at their failure to address rising costs of living and food production, shifting blame to the federal government.

Idris highlighted the federal government’s efforts to address security threats, stabilize the exchange rate, and rescue abducted citizens. He called on PDP governors to collaborate with the federal government to revamp the economy for the collective well-being of Nigerians.
