Lagos State Government to Impose Sanctions on Uber for Violating Data Sharing Agreement

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to impose sanctions on Uber Technologies System Nigeria Ltd. for its failure to adhere to a crucial data sharing agreement.

In a statement issued by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, it was confirmed that the decision to sanction Uber was driven by a steadfast commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the state’s residents.

Expressing disappointment at Uber’s persistent disregard for established regulations, particularly concerning the integration of critical Application Programme Interface (API) for enhanced safety measures, Osiyemi highlighted the alarming nature of this violation despite ongoing efforts to uphold a secure transportation environment.

Emphasizing the non-negotiable aspect of API integration, Osiyemi stressed its pivotal role in facilitating real-time data sharing for government monitoring and accountability during active trips, essential for fostering a secure and regulated transportation ecosystem.

Osiyemi underscored the urgency for Uber to take immediate corrective action to rectify its non-compliance with the Data Sharing Agreement and API integration within the state’s regulatory framework.
