Aisha Yesufu Reacts to ‘End Time’ Message, Expresses Skepticism Towards Political Deployment of Clerics”

Aisha Yesufu, a social critic and human rights activist, has expressed her skepticism regarding the deployment of clerics by politicians to confuse Nigerians in the midst of worsening economic hardship and hunger in the country.

Yesufu’s reaction comes in response to a statement made by Reverend Joshua Talena, an Abuja cleric and Senior Pastor of the Shepherd House Assembly International. Reverend Talena, during a Sunday service, emphasized that the current global unrest is a sign of the approaching end times, as foretold in scriptures. He highlighted widespread unrest, wickedness, hunger, and other societal ills as evidence of these final days.

However, Yesufu expressed her belief that politicians would eventually deploy clerics for their own purposes. In a social media post, she stated, “I knew they will soon deploy the clerics! Didn’t the Prophet (SAW) tell us that signs of the last days will include everyone being so rich that finding someone to give Zakah (charity) to will become a challenge?”

Yesufu’s comment reflects her skepticism towards the intentions of politicians who may seek to manipulate religious messages and use them to divert attention from the pressing issues faced by Nigerians, such as economic hardship and hunger. She implies that the focus should remain on addressing the root causes of these challenges rather than relying solely on religious interpretations.

The exchange between Reverend Talena and Aisha Yesufu highlights the ongoing discourse surrounding the role of religious leaders in addressing societal issues and the need for critical thinking and discernment when interpreting religious teachings in the context of social and political realities.
