Greg Rutherford Opens Up About “Horribly Painful” Skating Injury, Misses Dancing On Ice Final

Greg Rutherford, the 37-year-old Olympian, has revealed details about the excruciating injury that led to his absence from the Dancing On Ice final nearly two weeks ago. Rutherford disclosed that he suffered a severe tear in his abdominal muscles akin to a “C-section” while rehearsing a maneuver with professional skaters Brendyn Hatfield and Colin Grafton. Despite being a top contender for the final, Rutherford withdrew on the morning of the event, which aired on ITV.

In an Instagram post, Rutherford shared updates on his condition, expressing the intense pain of his injury and announcing his impending surgery on March 21. He explained how he tore all his abdominal muscles and herniated during the mishap on the ice, emphasizing the severity of the incident. Additionally, he provided followers with a glimpse of the moment of injury, further illustrating the ordeal he endured.

With Rutherford unable to perform alongside his professional partner Vanessa James, the final contestants Miles Nazaire, Adele Roberts, and Ryan Thomas competed for the title. Ultimately, it was Ryan Thomas and his partner Amani Fancy who clinched victory with a gripping warrior-themed routine, dedicating their win to Rutherford during the ceremony. Despite missing out on the chance to compete, Rutherford graciously congratulated Thomas on his remarkable achievement, highlighting their enduring friendship.
