Prince Harry and Meghan Engage in Mental Health Dialogue During Debut Visit to Nigeria

In a landmark visit to Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, participated in the inaugural mental health summit at the Lightway Academy, an institution supported by a local non-profit associated with their Archewell Foundation. This marked their first trip to Africa’s most populous nation, following an invitation from the chief of defence staff.

Amidst a jubilant reception, complete with enthusiastic cheers and performances by dancers and singers, the royal couple addressed the pervasive stigma surrounding mental health in Nigeria. Prince Harry emphasized the importance of open dialogue, stating, “Too many people don’t want to talk about it ’cause it’s invisible… Every single person has mental health.” He urged individuals to prioritize self-care in order to effectively support others, stressing that there is no shame in acknowledging mental health challenges.

Meghan echoed these sentiments, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to visit Nigeria and encouraging students not to suffer in silence. “Just make sure that you are taking care of yourselves,” she emphasized, highlighting the significance of discussing one’s emotions and experiences openly.
