ID Cabasa Remixes ‘Olufunmi’ Featuring Styl-Plus, Odumodublvck, Boj, Fireboy, and Joeboy
Ace Nigerian music producer Olamide Ogunade, popularly known as ID Cabasa, is set to release a remix of the 2006 classic hit ‘Olufunmi’ by Styl-Plus. The love song, originally about a man pleading with his lover, Olufunmi, not to end their relationship, will feature an exciting lineup of contemporary artists including Odumodublvck, Boj, Fireboy, and Joeboy alongside the original creators, Styl-Plus.
ID Cabasa, celebrated for his thoughtful and profound approach to music production, disclosed the project during an interview on the AfroBeat podcast with Adesope Live earlier this week. He emphasized the universal appeal of ‘Olufunmi’, noting that it was a beloved song that transcended language barriers. “Another will drop in two weeks, Olufunmi by Styl-Plus, and I have Fireboy, Joeboy, Odumodublvck, and Boj. Then we also have the voices of Styl-Plus,” he announced.
This upcoming release will be the second time ID Cabasa has revisited a Nigerian classic. In December 2023, he remixed 9ice’s 2008 hit ‘Photocopy’, featuring Vector. ID Cabasa’s extensive career, which began in the early 1980s, has seen him remain a pivotal figure in the Nigerian music industry. He has produced for and shaped the careers of numerous top-tier artists.
ID Cabasa founded the influential record label Coded Tunes, which signed prominent artists such as Olamide, 9ice, Reminisce, Durella, Vector, 2shotz, Lord Ajasa, and Banky W. He continues to work with new-generation Afrobeats artists, including Bella Shmurda, while maintaining strong relationships with those he has collaborated with over the years.
During the podcast, ID Cabasa also touched on the dynamics between veteran and new artists in the industry. He advocated for mutual respect, stating, “The new guys need to respect the OGs, and the OGs need to be more honorable.” He stressed that collaboration between both groups is essential for the future success of the music scene.
Reflecting on his career, ID Cabasa recounted his emotional experience when rapper Olamide, whom he had mentored from a young age, left his record label to establish YBNL Nation in 2012. Describing their bond as father-son, he expressed his initial pain but ultimately gave his full support. “Olamide was 13 years old when I met him… I gave him a beat, and he did 16 bars that changed everything,” he shared, adding, “We discussed it when he was about to leave my record label. It was painful to me. It was not the pain of not wanting him to progress; it was the pain of seeing someone you love leave. I cried. I said, ‘Olamide, you should have waited o!’ He said, ‘Bros, I want to do something, and I am sure, by your code, we might not be able to do some of them.’ We did not fight. I gave him my full blessings.
