Steve Buscemi’s Alleged Attacker Arrested and Charged in NYC

Steve Buscemi, the renowned actor, was randomly assaulted in New York City’s Midtown Manhattan neighborhood on May 8. The New York Police Department announced on Friday that they have arrested and charged Clifton Williams, a 50-year-old homeless man, with assault in the second degree for the attack.

The incident occurred when the NYPD responded to a 911 call reporting an assault on Third Avenue within the 13th precinct. Buscemi, 66, was punched in the face and later transported to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition, where he was treated for a minor injury to his left eye.

Williams was identified as the suspect when he walked into the 10th precinct in Chelsea on May 13 to report stolen property. Officers recognized him and subsequently arrested him for the assault on Buscemi. Williams faces two assault charges: one misdemeanor for allegedly punching another man shortly before attacking Buscemi, and a felony charge due to Buscemi’s status as a senior citizen.

In response to the attack, Buscemi’s publicist released a statement, confirming the incident and assuring fans of the actor’s well-being. “Steve Buscemi was assaulted in Midtown Manhattan, another victim of a random act of violence in the city. He is OK and appreciates everyone’s well wishes, though incredibly sad for everyone that this has happened to while also walking the streets of N.Y.”

Buscemi joins a list of celebrities who have been victims of random attacks in New York. His Boardwalk Empire co-star, Michael Stuhlbarg, was hit with a rock in March, and in recent years, both Rick Moranis and Bethenny Frankel have also experienced similar assaults.
