Reminisce says “No One is Your Friend in the Music Industry”

Nigerian rapper Reminisce recently shared insights about the realities of fame and relationships in the music industry during an interview with Naija FM. He emphasized the importance of setting boundaries and being cautious about whom to trust, stating, “Nobody is my friend.”

Reflecting on his early experiences in the industry, Reminisce described fame as a “drug” that can cloud judgment. He noted that his initial encounters taught him a valuable lesson: not everyone around him has his best interests at heart. “Fame is a drug that gets one high and clouds judgment,” he explained. “One of the things I did in life earlier on was to realize that nobody is my friend.”

The rapper acknowledged that his straightforward approach may have made him unpopular with some people in the industry. He mentioned that conflicts often arise from decisions he makes, which he stands by, regardless of the consequences. “That’s probably why many people don’t like me… if someone has worked with me and you find out that we had issues, if you find out what happened, it would probably have been because I made my decision and stood by it,” he said.

As his career progressed, Reminisce learned to be more selective about his relationships. He explained how he came to understand that many individuals in the industry can quickly turn against you if they feel overlooked or if their financial interests are not being met. “You know that when it comes to humans, they turn you into an enemy if they aren’t favoured, especially monetarily,” he remarked.

Reminisce’s advice to aspiring artists is to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings. He stated, “We all want the same thing, so there is no way you’d think everyone is your friend. It is very normal to have people around you when you’re hot and popping, and it is your responsibility as a famous person to determine what you want. Not everyone around you wants you to succeed.”

His candid remarks serve as a reminder of the complexities of the music industry, urging newcomers to approach their careers with both ambition and caution.
