Ayra Starr Emphasizes Family Connections While Navigating Fame
Nigerian singer Ayra Starr recently opened up about the significance of family in her life, revealing that she still lives with her family whenever she returns to Nigeria. In an interview with Coco Jones for Rolling Stone’s Musicians on Musicians issue, the Grammy-nominated artist expressed her deep appreciation for the role her loved ones play in her life.
At just 22 years old, Ayra Starr values the input of her family and friends, especially regarding her fashion choices and music. She mentioned that they even engage in discussions through a group chat where she solicits their opinions on her outfits. “When I go back home [Nigeria], I still live with my family. My brothers are making noise playing video games. I still involve my friends in my life,” she said.
However, she also admitted that this close involvement can sometimes feel overwhelming, leading her to seek moments of solitude. “Although, sometimes, it gets overwhelming and I have to disappear,” she shared.
In a related discussion about personal growth and relationships, reality TV star Uriel Oputa criticized the relationship advice circulating among her fellow Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) contestants. She specifically addressed comments made by co-reality star Rachel Edward, who suggested that women should leave partners who do not buy them cars. Uriel emphasized the dangers of entitlement, urging women to prioritize personal development and gratitude instead of material expectations.
She cautioned that those who expect constant gifts without showing appreciation may hinder their own growth. Uriel encouraged women to utilize whatever they receive to uplift themselves, reinforcing the idea that self-worth is built on personal growth rather than material possessions.
