Mohbad’s Widow Agrees to DNA Test for Son’s Paternity Amid Legal Battle

Omowunmi, the widow of the late Nigerian rapper Mohbad, has consented to a DNA test to confirm the paternity of her son, Liam. This decision follows a legal dispute initiated by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, who requested the paternity test to establish the identity of his grandson. The court initially directed both parties to explore alternative dispute resolution, but after failing to reach an agreement, the case proceeded.

On Sunday, Monisola Odumosu, representing the family’s legal team, confirmed that Omowunmi has agreed to the DNA test under a settlement reached between the parties. According to the terms, the DNA test will be conducted at two recognized medical facilities in Lagos or at an agreed location outside the state. Mohbad’s father, Aloba, has agreed to bear all associated costs, including administrative and sample collection fees, ensuring the process is properly supervised by court-appointed officers.

Legal expenses for both sides will remain separate, with Aloba only covering the DNA testing costs. The decision is seen as a step toward resolving family matters amidst the wider public attention Mohbad’s death has attracted.

Since his passing at 27, Mohbad’s life and legacy have been under scrutiny, with ongoing investigations by the Lagos State Police Command. Mohbad, a former artist under Marlian Music, left the label in 2022. After his unexpected death in September 2023, a 13-member team was assigned by the police to examine the case, resulting in the arrests of notable figures including Naira Marley and socialite Sam Larry.

Public voices continue to demand transparency in the case, especially amid concerns that the coroner’s inquest has faced delays and potential interference. Some international observers have called for a transparent investigation, underscoring the need for clarity regarding Mohbad’s death and his legacy.

This legal step, as Omowunmi consents to a DNA test for her son’s paternity, highlights the family’s pursuit of clarity and underscores the complex circumstances surrounding the rapper’s untimely death.
