Tope Alabi Expresses Concern Over Rivalry Among Gospel Singers

Nigerian gospel singer Tope Alabi has voiced her disappointment regarding the rivalry among her colleagues in the gospel music scene. Speaking at the ‘Celebrating Jesus 7.0’ concert in Ibadan, Oyo State, she lamented what she calls fake love among gospel artists.

Alabi shared her frustrations about the jealousy and intense rivalries, not only among A-list singers but also with emerging talents in the gospel industry. She emphasized the need for unity and support between established artists and newcomers, urging her peers to prioritize their legacy and accountability to God over personal fame and success.

“God will hold us accountable for these things. Let us stop it,” Alabi stated. She highlighted the disconnect between established artists and those just starting, noting that the more successful singers often isolate themselves, leading to further divisions. She pointed out that the competition among new artists is already evident, as they imitate the negative behaviors they observe in their predecessors.

“The emerging ones are already against each other. These children coming up are already backstabbing and emulating us because we started it,” she warned. Alabi called for a change in attitude, stressing that this rivalry is getting out of hand and that God will ultimately hold them accountable for their actions.
