Skales Clarifies His Journey Amid Speculations of Support from Wizkid and Burna Boy

Nigerian singer Skales, whose real name is Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, has made headlines by clarifying that neither Wizkid nor Burna Boy contributed to his success in the music industry. In a recent statement on his X account, Skales expressed gratitude towards his former record label boss Banky W, as well as artists Olamide and Timaya, for their support throughout his career.

Skales wrote, “Put some respect on my name… I don tell una the only person sef wey help me na Olamide and Timaya and Banky W… much respect to Burna. You guys always love to see artists go against each other but ama set the record straight.” He emphasized his focus on making music rather than engaging in negative rivalries.

Responding to a comment from a user claiming Wizkid played a significant role in his career, Skales stated, “Ask am make him tell una how… got respect for him but he didn’t help me. If anything, Banky deserves the praise and respect for believing in teenagers.” This remark underlines Skales’ assertion that his journey has been largely self-driven, supported by his fans and faith.

When another comment suggested Burna Boy provided a boost to his career, Skales firmly defended his position: “Listen, I will defend myself always … I love Burna but don’t you ever say he helped me. No one helped me! Only my fans and God’s grace.” He stressed that any collaborations benefit all artists involved and that he remains focused on creating music without being drawn into unnecessary drama.

Skales and Wizkid were among the first artists signed to Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment (EME) in the early 2010s but parted ways from the label long after achieving stardom. The singer’s recent statements reflect his commitment to authenticity and his desire to avoid negative energy within the industry.
