Ufoma McDermott Reveals How Painkillers Damaged Her Kidneys

Nollywood actress Ufoma McDermott has opened up about her long struggle with kidney disease, revealing that it stemmed from her long-term use of painkillers. In a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, she shared her journey over the past 12 years, emphasizing the importance of health awareness.

During the conversation, McDermott highlighted that her kidney issues were a direct result of painkiller abuse. “I really wish everyone would understand the importance of health,” she said, reflecting on the severity of her situation. She also recounted her brother’s battle with stage 4 kidney disease, which required immediate dialysis and led to further complications. Concerned about the potential genetic link, her family sought answers and discovered that drug abuse was the underlying cause of their conditions.

McDermott revealed that her struggle began with chronic migraines, headaches, and eye pains. Growing up, she avoided wearing glasses to not appear “geeky,” which led her to rely heavily on painkillers. “I took strong painkillers, not just ordinary ones, because I wanted the pain to go away,” she admitted.
