British music legend Elton John shocked fans when he revealed that he had lost his eyesight following a battle with a severe infection. The 77-year-old singer and songwriter shared the news on Sunday during an appearance at the Dominion Theatre in London’s West End, following the charity gala performance of The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical. Despite his sight loss, Elton expressed his enjoyment of the performance, saying that although he couldn’t see it, he loved listening to it.

In a candid statement, Elton John told the audience, “As some of you may know, I have had issues and now I have lost my sight. I haven’t been able to see the performance, but I have enjoyed listening to it.” He added that he was finding comfort in the music and the support of those around him.

John also credited his husband, David Furnish, for his unwavering support during this challenging time. He acknowledged that Furnish had been helping him through the ordeal, particularly as he had been unable to attend several previews of the musical due to his vision issues. “To my husband, who’s been my rock, because I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews because, as you know, I’ve lost my eyesight, so it’s hard for me to see it, but I love to hear it,” Elton said.

The singer further shared a heartfelt message on TikTok, expressing his gratitude to the audience and praising the musical performance. “And, boy, it sounded good tonight! OK! Thank you for coming!” he added, showing his resilience despite the difficult situation.

Elton John first addressed his eyesight issues in September when he disclosed that he had “limited vision in one eye” following a “severe eye infection” during the summer. At that time, he mentioned that his recovery was slow, and it would take time for his sight to fully return to the affected eye. The artist remains hopeful about the healing process, even though the journey is challenging.
