Prophetess Naomi’s Mother Pleads for Help After Daughter’s Remand in Prison
The mother of Prophetess Naomi Silekunola, the former Queen of Ooni of Ife, has made an emotional plea for help after her daughter was remanded in Agodi prison. Naomi, who has been involved in charity work for over ten years, was arrested in connection with a stampede that tragically led to the deaths of 35 minors last Wednesday. In a tearful video, Naomi’s mother begged Nigerians to support her, insisting that her daughter is innocent of the charges against her.
“Help me, have mercy on me, don’t let them destroy my life,” Naomi’s mother cried out. “My daughter has been doing this program for over 10 years, it is to help children. Please, the world, help free Naomi, help free my daughter, she is very innocent.” The emotional appeal highlights the mother’s distress over the situation and her belief in her daughter’s good intentions.
Naomi, along with two others—Mr. Hamzat Oriyomi, the owner of Agidigbo FM, and Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi, the Principal of an Islamic School—has been charged with conspiracy, negligent acts causing harm, failure to provide adequate security, and acceleration of death. The charges are related to the deadly stampede that occurred during an event organized to help children.
The court has ordered that the three individuals be remanded in custody until January 13, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP). Despite attempts by their legal representatives to prevent the remand, Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi ruled that they should remain in prison custody until further legal advice is provided.
In court, Mr. Ridwan Adekunle, the lawyer representing Oriyomi, requested that his client be kept in police custody instead of prison. He claimed that there was a mutual agreement with the Officer-in-Charge (OC) Legal that Oriyomi should not be sent to prison. Similarly, the defense lawyer for the principal, Mr. Olajide, argued that his client should not be arraigned and should be sent to police custody instead.
The case, marked C/2024, was filed by the Commissioner of Police. Although seven individuals were initially arrested in connection with the incident, five have since been released. Naomi and Oriyomi were both hospitalized after the stampede, with Oriyomi expressing his shock over the event. Naomi reportedly collapsed while in police custody.
Following the tragic incident, Governor Seyi Makinde promised that a thorough investigation would be carried out. He assured the public that those found responsible for the deaths would be held accountable under the law. The case has drawn significant public attention, with many hoping for a fair investigation and resolution.
