Spyro Reveals He Spends Over N15 Million Annually on Beggars
Afrobeats artist Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, better known as Spyro, has opened up about the financial pressures he faces as a celebrity, revealing that he spends over N15 million every year on beggars. The singer, famous for his hit song “Who’s Your Guy,” shared his experience with fans on Instagram, expressing his frustration with the constant requests for assistance that come his way both online and offline.
Spyro explained that while he regularly offers help to those in need, the pressure to do so is overwhelming. He revealed that people often approach him for financial support, but they rarely offer anything in return. Despite his consistent generosity, Spyro shared a painful experience where a stranger insulted him after he was unable to give money at that particular moment.
In his Instagram post, Spyro said, “It’s really hard being a celebrity in Lagos. I told a guy I didn’t have anything and would see him the next day. He rained insults on me.” The singer also highlighted the daily costs of his acts of kindness, noting that he spends a minimum of N100,000 on gifts each time he leaves his house. He broke down his yearly spending, explaining that if he goes out three times a week, it adds up to N300,000 weekly, or about N1.2 million per month, totaling approximately N15 million annually.
Spyro’s revelation sheds light on the hidden struggles that come with fame, especially in a city like Lagos, where celebrities are often expected to give back to their communities. Despite the challenges, Spyro remains committed to helping those in need, though the constant demands have clearly taken a toll on him.
The singer’s experience highlights the emotional and financial toll that fame can take, particularly when it comes to meeting the expectations of others.
