Tinubu Says Africa Has the Resources to Drive Its Own Development

President Bola Tinubu has expressed confidence that Africa has the necessary resources, people, and capacity to drive its own development. In a post on his official X account on Monday, he emphasized the importance of looking inward to enhance intra-African trade and collaboration, which would benefit both the people and the continent as a whole.

Tinubu shared insights from his productive discussions with Rwandan President Paul Kagame on the eve of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2025. The president stressed that Africa’s time has come, stating, “We have the resources, the people, and the capacity. We must look inward to improve intra-African trade and collaboration to benefit the African people and the continent. The time for Africa is now. We can. We must. We will.”

President Tinubu departed Abuja on January 11 to participate in the 2025 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. He was invited by Sheikh Mohamed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, to attend the summit, which will run from January 12 to 18. The summit is set to gather global leaders to discuss sustainable development and socioeconomic progress, with the theme “The Nexus of Next; Supercharging Sustainable Progress.” This event will provide an opportunity for policymakers, businesses, and civil society leaders to explore strategies for accelerating the transition to a sustainable economy and creating a prosperous future for all.
