Actress Lola Idije Addresses Allegations Against Omoborty
Actress Toyin ‘Lola Idije’ Afolayan has spoken out regarding claims that her colleague, Biodun ‘Omoborty’ Okeowo, snatched her husband from her daughter. The rumors surfaced after Omoborty married her U.S.-based partner, Adeniyi Olabiyi, in July, as reported by PREMIUM TIMES.
The marriage drew public attention recently when a controversial blog, Gistlover, alleged that Omoborty had taken Olabiyi from Lola Idije’s daughter, claiming that he had previously proposed to her. The blog further suggested that Omoborty married Olabiyi to secure an American Permanent Resident Card, among other allegations.
In response to these claims, Lola Idije took to her Instagram account to clarify the situation. The 65-year-old actress stated that she was unfamiliar with Mr. Olabiyi before the wedding and emphasized that if Omoborty had truly taken her daughter’s boyfriend, she would not have attended the wedding.
In her post, she wrote, “Good evening everyone, I want to address the story going around since yesterday and to clear the air. The first time I ever spoke to Omoborty’s husband was when she introduced him to me on a phone call.” She further affirmed, “Biodun aka Omoborty did not snatch my daughter’s boyfriend. I attended the wedding; there is no way she would do that and I still would attend the wedding.”
In a related Instagram Live session, Omoborty echoed Lola Idije’s sentiments, stating that she has considered Lola Idije a mother figure since the passing of her own mother. She clarified that her husband had no prior contact with Lola Idije’s family before their introduction.
“My husband doesn’t know any of Lola Idije’s daughters. He spoke to Mummy Lola for the first time through me because I don’t want the narrative suggesting that Biodun snatched her husband from the daughter whom she considered a mother,” she explained. Omoborty expressed her love and respect for Lola Idije, emphasizing the unfounded nature of the rumors.
She urged anyone involved in spreading the rumors to come forward and set the record straight, stating, “I implore all parties involved, whom Gistlover is using to tarnish my name, to come forward and tell the truth.”
Further addressing the situation, Omoborty condemned the allegations made by Gistlover, labeling them as entirely fabricated. She expressed concern over the public’s tendency to accept the blog’s posts as truth and urged people to recognize the misinformation being spread.
“To everyone, please know that whatever Gistlover has ever written about me is false. I ask that you help me plead with Tosin—she’s a woman as well—to come forward and name the person she is referring to so that people will know Gistlover is spreading fake news,” Omoborty stated.
Gistlover has a reputation for controversial and often unverified claims, and Omoborty underscored the importance of not accepting their posts as fact, sharing that she has evidence of the blog’s falsehoods.
Omoborty, who gained fame through her roles in productions like Okanjua and Alapo Aje, has established herself as a significant figure in the Yoruba film industry, and these recent events highlight the challenges public figures face amid rumors and misinformation.
