African 2026 World Cup Qualifiers Key Highlights

The 2026 African World Cup qualifiers have delivered exciting moments, unexpected upsets, and standout performances as matchday six concludes.

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah leads the scoring charts with six goals for Egypt, showcasing his prolific form. He started strong with four goals in a 6-0 win over Djibouti and continued scoring against Guinea-Bissau and Ethiopia. Meanwhile, Algeria’s Mohamed Amoura netted a hat-trick against Mozambique, joining five others with five goals each.

Group C has been the most unpredictable, with surprising results such as Lesotho holding Nigeria to a draw, Rwanda defeating South Africa in tough weather conditions, and Zimbabwe snatching a last-minute equalizer against Nigeria through Wolverhampton’s Tawanda Chirewa.

In terms of scorelines, 1-0 has been the most common result, occurring in 33 matches out of 151. Larger goal margins have been rare, but Ivory Coast’s 9-0 thrashing of Seychelles remains the most lopsided victory.

Top-seeded teams like Egypt, Morocco, Ivory Coast, Algeria, and Tunisia lead their groups, while Cameroon and Senegal are trailing by a single point in theirs. Mali and Nigeria, however, are struggling in fourth place, six points behind their group leaders.
