Amorim Frustrated as Man United Fall to Spurs in Narrow Defeat

Rúben Amorim expressed his frustration after Manchester United suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, missing key chances that could have changed the result. Despite creating several opportunities, United failed to score, with James Maddison’s first-half goal securing the win for Spurs. Amorim, however, remained focused on the bigger picture, urging his players to move on quickly and prepare for their next game.

United will travel to Goodison Park on Saturday, February 22, to face Everton in match week 26, according to PUNCH Online. Speaking in a post-match press conference, Amorim admitted that failing to convert chances made the difference. “It was the key factor—they scored, and we didn’t. We had good opportunities, especially in the first half when we pushed harder,” he said. “We suffered in transitions trying to chase a result, but in the end, they took their chance, and we didn’t. We created chances, which is the hardest part, but to win games, we need to score.”

Amorim dismissed concerns over his position, emphasizing his dedication to the club and players. “I understand what the fans, media, and people think, but I’m not focused on myself. I want to finish the season strong. My priority is the team, the club, and our results,” he said. “I hate losing—it’s the worst feeling. But I’m confident in my work, and my goal is to help the players improve and win games.”

Amorim also called on supporters to keep backing the team as they navigate a tough period. “The fans’ support is really important. We know they expect more, and we’re working hard to turn things around,” he said. “We will keep pushing, and in the next game, we want to win. The best thing now is to forget past results, focus on training, and prepare for the next challenge.”

He played down injury concerns, insisting the squad must stay committed. “We want to recover players, and hopefully, we will have some back for the Everton game. We have to stick together, finish strong, and then rebuild,” he noted. He also explained how injuries have forced him to adjust tactics. “You start with one plan, but losing players changes everything. For example, I can’t play the same way with Joshua Zirkzee as I would with Amad. Bruno [Fernandes] is great in the build-up but also key in pressing—it’s about finding the right balance.”
