Angelina Jolie Reveals She Stopped Singing Due to Ex-Boyfriend’s Criticism

American actress and filmmaker Angelina Jolie recently opened up about how an ex-boyfriend’s criticism of her singing voice led her to stop singing altogether. Jolie, 49, shared her story during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter while discussing her role in the biopic Maria, where she portrays opera singer Maria Callas. This role required Jolie to sing, bringing her voice back into the spotlight after years of self-doubt.

Jolie explained that her ex-partner had made her believe she wasn’t good at singing, which deeply impacted her. “I had somebody in my life who was not kind to me about singing. It was a relationship I was in, and so I just assumed I could not really sing,” she said. Despite having attended theater school, the criticism affected her confidence, and she adapted to her partner’s negative opinion.

However, Jolie has since rediscovered her singing voice while preparing for her role in Maria. Surprisingly, she learned that she is actually a soprano, a discovery that shocked her after believing for years that she had a deeper voice. Jolie reflected on how life experiences can affect one’s voice, saying, “Your voice changes when you go through different things in your life.”
