Angola offers Palancas Negras N5.4m each to beat Super Eagles
Each player of Palancas Negras, the Angolan national team, will get the princely sum of five million kwansas, which is about N5.4 million, if they succeed in beating the Super Eagles in the quarterfinal of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.
Nigeria and Angola will meet on Friday at the Houphoet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan, in one of the quarterfinals of the AFCON following their 2-0 and 3-0 defeats of Cameroon and Namibia, respectively, in the round of 16.
Unlike the Super Eagles, who get $5,000 for each victory, the Angolans have received far less in their first four games at the championship.
According to agency reports, the country’s investment banking group, Banco Angolano de Investimento (BAI), will reward each player and the technical staff with five million Kwanzas in recognition of their giant strides at the championship.
Apart from the cash rewards, every member of the Angolan delegation has received an iPhone 15, complete with complimentary calls, SMS, and free internet for a year from the president of the telecommunications outfit, UNITEL, Aguinaldo Jaime.
Another outfit, SODIAM EP, has also promised the team the sum of $250,000 (about N225m) should they qualify for the final of the AFCON.
