Anyone Eyeing 2027 Must Be Fully Prepared to Face Tinubu and Wike Says Dele Momodu
Media personality and former presidential candidate, Dele Momodu, has said that anyone planning to run in the 2027 elections must be fully prepared to face the strong political partnership between President Bola Tinubu and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
Speaking on Arise Television, Momodu described Tinubu as a powerful force even before becoming president, and now, with Wike standing by him, it will be a serious battle for any contender. He said that going up against them in 2027 will be like playing in the World Cup, and only the best political players will stand a chance.
Momodu said, “Tinubu, who is already president, was tough to challenge even before winning. Now, with Wike by his side, anyone who wants to contest in 2027 must be battle-ready. It won’t be an easy race.”
He also criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum for rejecting a proposed opposition coalition led by Atiku Abubakar. According to Momodu, the refusal may end up helping President Tinubu’s administration rather than weakening it.
The coalition, which includes Atiku, former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, and Labour Party’s Peter Obi, was recently dismissed by PDP governors after a meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Momodu expressed disappointment, saying, “Atiku cannot do it alone. Peter Obi cannot do it alone. Kwankwaso or anyone else also can’t do it alone. If the opposition wants to stand a chance, they must join forces and even pull some people from APC to make it work.”
He questioned the reasoning of the PDP governors and reminded them of lessons from history, adding that only unity can stand against power.
“People must learn from history. When Obasanjo’s government attacked Lagos under Tinubu, Tinubu survived because he stood firm and didn’t give in. A bully only respects a bully,” Momodu said.
He went on to express concern over the fear many politicians now have, saying, “Everyone is scared of Tinubu—worried about the EFCC, about being arrested. We are all acting like chickens.”
Momodu called on politicians to stop defecting and to stand firm. He said that power is never handed over easily and compared the current struggle to past freedom movements across Africa.
“We all like to read about Mandela and Nigeria’s independence heroes, but now everyone wants power on a platter. Any politician thinking of switching sides might be jumping into the Atlantic Ocean,” he warned.
He concluded by urging all opposition leaders to stay united and show courage if they want to challenge Tinubu and Wike successfully in 2027.
