Arteta Urges Arsenal to Stay Consistent in Premier League Title Race
Mikel Arteta has called on Arsenal to “flip the coin” in their bid to catch Premier League leaders Liverpool and secure their first league title since 2004. The Gunners, currently in second place, are six points behind Liverpool, who have a game in hand after an impressive run this season.
Arsenal’s form dipped in October and November, leaving them trailing in the title race. Speaking on Friday, Arteta emphasized the need for consistency as his team prepares to face Brighton on Saturday.
“We’ve been the best team in the league over the past year, breaking records, but we still haven’t won a major trophy. Something is missing,” Arteta admitted. “We’re so close, but we need to flip that coin to make it happen. We must focus on what we can control, as the rest is out of our hands.”
Arsenal faces additional challenges with key player Bukayo Saka sidelined until March due to a hamstring injury. Arteta acknowledged the difficulty of maintaining a consistent lineup in Saka’s absence.
“No one player can play nine games in a row in that position. We need more players fit and ready to rotate, and we’ll make decisions based on performances,” he said.
When asked about potential signings in the January transfer window, Arteta remained cautious, stating the focus is on the current squad. “If there’s an opportunity to bring in someone who can make a real impact and afford it, we’ll consider it. But for now, we’re focused on the players we have.”
Arsenal will need to maintain top form in the second half of the season to challenge Liverpool and end their long wait for a Premier League title.
