BBNaija’s Bam Bam Slams Police Over Alleged Money Extortion

Reality TV star and actress Bam Bam has taken to social media to call out Nigerian police officers over an unsettling encounter she recently had with them. According to her, she was stopped without any justifiable reason and forced to give them money. Sharing her experience on Twitter on March 20, 2025, she described the officers as inappropriate and forceful, questioning why citizens should have to endure such situations.

Bam Bam recounted that she had just wrapped up a movie shoot and was heading home when officers stopped her vehicle. She stated that they insisted she step out, only to begin demanding money from her. Expressing her frustration, she wondered what would have happened had she refused. She emphasized that one of the officers acted inappropriately, as he asked her to “show him love” while preventing her from leaving. Feeling cornered, she had no choice but to comply, highlighting how powerless many Nigerians feel in similar situations.

She further stressed that there is a significant difference between receiving tips in a respectful manner and aggressively demanding money from citizens as if it were a right. In her view, people should feel safe when they see the police, not fearful. She criticized the sense of entitlement displayed by the officers and lamented the reality that many Nigerians face such extortion on a regular basis.

Bam Bam’s revelation has sparked discussions online, with many social media users sharing similar experiences. Some expressed frustration at how common such incidents have become, arguing that the police are no longer seen as protectors but as opportunists preying on civilians. Others noted that while Nigerians have complained about this issue for years, it is only now gaining attention because celebrities are experiencing the same thing.

Her post has reignited conversations about police reform in Nigeria, with calls for greater accountability within law enforcement. While some argue that low salaries contribute to such behavior among officers, others maintain that corruption and a lack of discipline within the force are the real issues. Many believe that unless serious measures are taken, incidents like Bam Bam’s will continue to happen, making citizens feel unsafe in the presence of those meant to protect them.
