Bisi Akande Warns Nigerians: Rejecting APC Won’t Solve Problems in 2027 Coalition Move

Chief Bisi Akande, the founding Interim Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has issued a stern warning to Nigerians, cautioning against the notion of returning the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to power in 2027.

Akande strongly believes that reinstating the main opposition party would only exacerbate the nation’s challenges, plunging citizens into deeper hardship.

Expressing his views in response to proposals by opposition parties to form a coalition aimed at unseating the ruling party in the upcoming general election, the seasoned statesman emphasized that such a coalition would fail to offer relief from the prevailing hardships.

Speaking to journalists in Ila Orangun, Osun State, on Saturday, as part of celebrations marking his 85th birthday, Akande underscored the consequences of reverting to the PDP, emphasizing the party’s lack of vision and inability to address the nation’s needs.

“If PDP was rejected and the same PDP coalesced again and people say, okay we will go back to it, the people will go back to their suffering. PDP was defeated because it had no clue,” he remarked.

He further elucidated on the challenges inherited by the APC upon assuming power, characterizing Nigeria’s political and economic foundation as weak and dilapidated. Akande likened the process of rectifying these longstanding issues to navigating a treacherous road, necessitating adjustments and enduring temporary setbacks.

“APC comes, it inherited a very difficult, weak, and dilapidated political and economic foundation called Nigeria. In driving, you are driving and suddenly, maybe something happens in front and you have to turn. Whether you do it by U-turn or you do it another way, there will be screeches,” Akande explained.

He acknowledged that while the current administration under President Buhari may not be flawless, it is steadfastly committed to rectifying decades of accumulated damage to the nation’s fabric.

Akande’s impassioned plea serves as a cautionary reminder to Nigerians amid ongoing political discourse and underscores the imperative of strategic decision-making in charting the nation’s future course.
