Bukky Wright Shares Why She Took a Long Break from Acting
Veteran Nollywood actress, Bukky Wright has explained why she stepped away from acting for a long time. She revealed that she took a break to focus on raising her children and ensuring they had all the support they needed.
In a recent interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Channels TV, Bukky Wright said she had to travel abroad to be with her children because they needed her presence. She explained that a mother plays an important role in a child’s life, and there are moments when children need their mothers more than ever.
According to her, she did not stop acting because she lost interest but because she had to make a choice between her career and her children. She believed that being there for them was the best decision at that time.
“There are times in life when a mother has to put her children first. My children were abroad, and I didn’t want to leave them with anyone else. At a certain age, children start saying things like, ‘You are not my mum, you can’t talk to me like that.’ So, I had to be there for them myself,” she said.
The actress also spoke about the sacrifices that mothers make. She noted that while fathers also play a role in raising children, a mother’s love and care are special. She mentioned that in Yoruba culture, there is a saying:
“Iya ni iya mi, Baba ni baba gbogbo aye,” which means, “My mother is my mother, but a father can be a father to many.”
She also joked about how mothers are the ones who always go for Omugwo (a traditional practice where a mother helps her daughter care for a newborn), while fathers do not usually participate in such things.
Now that her children have grown, Bukky Wright is ready to return to Nollywood. She assured her fans that she still loves acting and is excited to work on new projects.
“I never stopped loving acting. There are still many things I want to do. But my children needed me, and I had to answer their call,” she added.
