Burna Boy Explains Assault on Fan at Lagos Concert, Cites PTSD

Famous Nigerian singer Burna Boy has opened up about the incident where he kicked a fan during his performance at the 2025 Lagos Countdown concert. The event, which took place in Lagos, sparked widespread criticism after a video showing the singer assaulting a fan went viral on social media.

In the footage, Burna Boy was seen abruptly leaving the stage after kicking a fan who attempted to touch him during his performance. Many online users condemned his actions, with some labeling him as one of the most arrogant Nigerian artists.

Responding to the backlash, Burna Boy took to Instagram on Wednesday evening to address the controversy. In his post, he revealed that he suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), a condition that can cause heightened reactions to certain situations. He also issued a warning to fans, urging them never to jump on stage during his performances.

The singer explained, “It was a free show. I was supposed to do 10 minutes and did almost one hour. Everybody knows my rule about getting on stage and startling me when I’m performing. I had an amazing time with Lagos State last night. Don’t jump on my stage like that! I got PTSD. I love you all. Happy new year.”

PTSD, or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, is a mental health condition that arises from experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. Symptoms may include anxiety, flashbacks, and difficulty recovering from the emotional impact of the incident.

While Burna Boy’s statement sheds light on his reaction, the incident has reignited discussions about the responsibilities of performers and the behavior of fans during live events.
