Burna Boy Under Fire for Clubbing With Seyi Tinubu Amid Growing Public Outrage

Nigerian superstar Burna Boy has come under serious criticism after being spotted partying with Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The sighting has stirred outrage among fans and social media users, many of whom accuse the Grammy-winning artist of hypocrisy.

The backlash comes at a sensitive time. Burna Boy, known for his songs that highlight social injustice and inequality in Nigeria, appeared in a viral video hanging out with Seyi Tinubu and Hollywood actor Michael B. Jordan in a Paris nightclub. Although the brief interaction focused mostly on Jordan, Nigerians were quick to voice their disappointment over Burna Boy’s association with the president’s son.

Many felt the singer’s presence in the same space as Seyi Tinubu contradicts the message in his socially conscious lyrics. This criticism was intensified by the recent drama surrounding veteran rapper Eedris Abdulkareem’s song Tell Your Papa, which directly criticized President Tinubu and his son for the nation’s economic hardships. The song, now banned by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), was sparked by Seyi’s controversial statement describing his father as “Nigeria’s greatest president.”

Social media has since exploded with mixed reactions. While some argued that Seyi Tinubu holds no political office and should not be dragged into national frustrations, others slammed Burna Boy for what they see as a betrayal of the struggles he often highlights in his music.

One user commented, “So Burna now partying with the people he sang against,” while another wrote, “Country dey burn una dey club in Paris.” Several others questioned Burna Boy’s commitment to his message, calling him out for cozying up with political elites while many Nigerians face severe economic challenges.

Burna Boy has not responded to the controversy, but the online backlash shows that fans expect public figures, especially those who champion social issues, to align their actions with their words.
