Burna Boy Ventures Into Film Production with ‘3 Cold Dishes’ Addressing Sex Trafficking

Nigerian music sensation Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy, is expanding his artistic repertoire by taking on a significant role in the film industry. Burna Boy will serve as an executive producer for the upcoming thriller “3 Cold Dishes,” a gripping narrative that tackles the harrowing issue of sex trafficking.

The film, produced in collaboration with Ifind, Alma Productions, Asurf Films, Martian Network, and Black Mic Mac, follows the intense and emotional journey of three women—Esosa, Fatouma, and Giselle. Once victims of sex trafficking, these women have ascended to influential positions within the underground world of prostitution. Despite their newfound power, the trauma of their pasts continues to haunt them as they seek vengeance against the men who once enslaved them.

Burna Boy’s involvement in the film extends through his production company, Spaceship Films, which he established in 2015 alongside his mother, Bose Ogulu. This venture marks a significant milestone in his career, showcasing his commitment to storytelling and highlighting critical social issues.

The film is directed by Asurf Oluseyi, who won the African Magic Viewer’s Choice Award (AMVCA) in 2016 for Best Short Film with “A Day with Death.” Oluseyi has described “3 Cold Dishes” as a “testament to the strength and resilience of its

characters” and an “African cinematic journey like no other.”

The cast features renowned Nollywood actors such as Osas Ighodaro, Wale Ojo, Femi Jacobs, Ruby Akubueze, Brutus Richards, and Greg Ojefua. Additionally, the film includes performances from notable Ivorian actors Fat Toure and Maud Guerard, as well as Senegalese actors Amelie Mbaye and Mentor Ba.

“3 Cold Dishes” is part of an ambitious slate of projects by Black Mic Mac, a production company focused on promoting African and Middle Eastern talent. The company’s founder, Pape Boye, expressed pride in collaborating with diverse filmmakers across the continent and emphasized their mission to discover and nurture talent with the potential to captivate global audiences.

Among Black Mic Mac’s upcoming projects are “The Devil Inside,” “The Three Rascals,” “Apophenia,” “La Sape,” “The Great Transporter,” “The Cage,” and “Let The Earth Burn.” This robust lineup underscores the company’s position as a key player in the African film and television industry.
