Cameroonian Francis Ngannou Defeats Gane, Retains UFC Heavyweight Title(Video)

Francis Ngannou defeated Ciryl Gane by unanimous decision (48-47, 48-47, 49-46) at UFC 270 on Saturday in Anaheim, Calif. to retain the heavyweight belt. It was Ngannou’s sixth win in a row. Gane, a French fighter who briefly trained years ago with Ngannou in Paris, dropped his first career fight. He is now 10-1.

Ngannou likely trailed on the scorecards after the first two rounds. Gane peppered his opponent with shots at range and Ngannou seemed a bit hesitant, waiting for his one moment to land a special shot. Then he turned up the aggression in the third. In the third, fourth and fifth rounds, Ngannou decided to go for the takedown. He got Gane on the mat and landed some ground-and-pound strikes. He was the aggressor and largely on top of his opponent over the final 15 minutes. It was enough to secure the title defense.
