Celine Dion Plans Las Vegas Show Amid Struggle with Stiff Person Syndrome: ‘I Am Back’
Celine Dion, the iconic Canadian pop star, has announced her return to the stage with a new show in Las Vegas, marking a triumphant comeback after grappling with Stiff Person Syndrome, a challenging autoimmune and neurological disorder. The 56-year-old singer revealed her diagnosis in December 2022, which initially affected her ability to tour and perform.
In a recent interview, Dion candidly shared her journey with the disorder, recounting how she first noticed changes in her voice characterized by spasms and struggled to continue performing scheduled shows. Despite attempts to adjust, including lowering her vocal range, Dion eventually had to confront the reality of her condition, leading to the cancellation of her European tour.
Through medication and intensive physical therapy, Dion has been steadily rebuilding her voice, expressing optimism about her recovery and readiness to return to the stage. “My voice will be rebuilt,” she affirmed, emphasizing her determination to resume performing for her fans. She teased her upcoming Las Vegas show, promising to announce the dates soon with enthusiasm.
In addition to her musical comeback, Dion revealed the emotional toll of concealing her symptoms for years, particularly while supporting her late husband Rene Angelil during his battle with cancer. She disclosed grappling with severe symptoms and resorting to heavy medication like Valium, unaware of its potential dangers.
Dion’s resilience and personal journey will be showcased in the forthcoming documentary I Am: Celine Dion by director Irene Taylor. Set to stream on Prime Video from June 25, the documentary promises to delve into Dion’s enduring love for music and the strength of the human spirit.
