Chidimma Adetshina Appointed Enugu State Brand Ambassador
Chidimma Adetshina, the newly crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, has been appointed as the brand ambassador of Enugu State. This appointment was announced by the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, in a social media post on Thursday. The 23-year-old beauty queen received a warm welcome back home after her win, which included traditional performances and celebrations in Enugu on Tuesday.
Born to a Nigerian father from Enugu State and a Mozambican mother in South Africa, Adetshina holds dual citizenship. Despite her background, she proudly identifies with her Nigerian roots. Earlier in 2024, she participated in the Miss South Africa competition but faced backlash due to her Nigerian heritage, leading her to withdraw from the contest. However, she later went on to win the Miss Universe Nigeria title on August 30, 2024.
Governor Peter Mbah, while announcing her appointment, highlighted her resilience and determination as key reasons for choosing her as the brand ambassador. He emphasized that these traits reflect the values of the people of Enugu. The governor praised her journey, stating that despite the challenges she faced, her success is a reflection of the strength and perseverance associated with Ndi Enugu.
In his statement, the governor expressed his pride in Adetshina’s achievements and noted that her story would inspire many young people, especially young women in the state. He shared that the state government is committed to youth development and has dedicated a significant portion of the budget to education. Governor Mbah further mentioned that Chidimma’s appointment reinforces the state’s belief in the importance of investing in human resources.
In response to her appointment, Adetshina shared her gratitude in an Instagram post, expressing how honored she felt to be recognized in her father’s homeland. She mentioned that the invitation to represent Nigeria came at a challenging time in her life, but she is thankful for the opportunity to serve as an ambassador. Adetshina, who is also a 300-level law student, will represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe 2024 pageant, set to take place in Mexico this November.
Governor Mbah also wished Adetshina success as she prepares for the global stage, adding that she has the full support of Enugu State. He expressed confidence that she will continue to shine and serve as a symbol of excellence and resilience for Nigeria.
