Chiwetalu Agu: AGN President Confirms Actor’s Arrest by DSS Shortly After Nigerian Army Released Him

The filmmaker was arrested on October 7, by soldiers in Onitsha for wearing an outfit that carried the Biafran flag.
Shortly after securing his release on Friday, October 9, from the Nigerian Army, where he spent one night on Thursday, veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu is said to have been arrested by the men of the Department of State Services (DSS).
It was reported that the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) confirmed the news on Friday when it was claimed that the veteran actor was picked up by DSS.
The AGN president, Emeka Rollas, made this known, Rollas was quoted saying
A Nigerian writer, Mazi Nwonwu, in a Facebook post of Friday, October 8, claimed that the veteran actor is yet to be free but in the custody of the DSS.
He further said that his colleagues were searching for a top lawyer to bail him. Nwonwu wrote: “Chiwetalu Agu is still not free. He is with DSS now. Colleagues say they are looking for a top lawyer to bail him.”
It was earlier reported that a video of the 65-year old actor being harassed by soldiers caused quite a stir on social media. The actor was beaten and arrested in Onitsha by soldiers for wearing an outfit that had the Biafra flag on it. Agu was spotted in his car which was searched before he was manhandled by the army personnel.
It was also reported that the Nigerian Army troops arrested veteran actor, Chiwetalu Agu, on Thursday, October 7 in Onitsha, Anambra state. A statement from the Nigerian Army spokesman, Onyema Nwachukwu, noted that the actor was soliciting support for the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the commercial city while dressed in their colours.
