Citizens in Minna Protest High Cost of Living, Block Major Roads

Residents of Minna, the capital city of Niger State, took to the streets on Monday in protest against the soaring cost of living and perceived government inaction. The demonstrators, comprising a diverse group including women and youths, blocked major roads and disrupted normal activities to draw attention to their grievances.

Citing the rising prices of essential food items and the lack of adequate government measures to address economic challenges, protesters voiced their concerns through protest songs and intentional road blockades. Security agents, notably policemen, monitored the situation as the protest unfolded.

In response to the citizens’ grievances, Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba addressed the protesters directly, acknowledging the difficulties faced by families due to the surging living costs. He assured them that the government is actively working towards alleviating the situation, particularly in light of the recent petrol subsidy removal, which has exacerbated economic strain.
