Community panics as gunmen kill Fulani leader in Kwara, burgle shops

Suspected assassins in the early hour of Wednesday, invaded Lamba village in the Asa Local Government Area of Kwara state and killed a Fulani leader, Alhaji Abdullahi Hardo-Buruku.

It was gathered that the victim, popularly known as Alhaji Malam, was shot dead in his room while asleep.

A resident of Lamba, said the assailants stormed the town around 12 midnight ad shot into the air sporadically to scare people before entering the victim’s room, where they met three people.

“They shot him on the spot. We heard gunshots all over”.

The public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kwara State Command, Babawale Afolabi, said only the victim was killed.

Afolabi said, though the killers did not take anything from the victim’s room, they broke into some provision shops and stole drinks before they left the village.

Meanwhile, two residents of Ajaawa, in the Ogo-Oluwa Local Government Area of Oyo state were reportedly killed on Wednesday.

It was gathered that some herdsmen killed a butcher, popularly known as Lamidi Eleran in the town.

The butcher was said to have seen some herdsmen while they were trying to kidnap a prominent traditionalist in the town.

The kidnap attempt, it was gathered, failed but the herdsmen later lured the butcher to the bush to buy cows. He was reportedly killed by the herdsmen there.

The killing was said to have led to a protest and the protesters were said to have waited in front of the house of one of the contestants for the stool of Alajaawa.

The contestant reportedly opened fire on the protesters but nobody died.

The shooting was said to have angered protesters and they vandalized his building and set it ablaze while the contestant youth managed to escape.

His hotel was also said to have been razed down by the youths to register their anger
