Contravening public safety rules: Event Centre Where Petrol Was Shared Shut Down
The Lagos State Government on Saturday shut Havillah Event Centre, Oniru, Victoria Island, where petrol was used as a souvenir at a party. The venue was sealed by officials of the Lagos Safety Commission and the Rapid Response Squad for “contravening public safety rules” by allowing sharing of the petroleum product in jerrycans.
Senior Special Assistant to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos on New Media, Jubril Gawat, said the Commissioner of Police has ordered the arrest of those involved.
The pictures of the petrol in Jerrycans branded as a souvenir trended on social media and news mediums which aroused lot of funny comments. A video, which circulated on social media, showed that attendees were given gallons of petrol with stickers of “Erelu Okin Foundation Installation Party”.
Meanwhile, the party organiser, Erelu Okin, Pearl Chidinma Ogbolu, has apologised for sharing petrol as souvenir at her installation ceremony.
She wrote on Instagram, “I want to use this medium to apologise for the momentary indiscretion of bringing fuel souvenirs into the hall.
“My intent was just to show appreciation to my guests for turning up at my event at these hard times.”
