Covid-19: Get vaccinated or lose your job, Edo govt warns teachers, medical personnel
Edo state government, yesterday, in Benin City, warned that teachers and medical personnel in the state who were yet to take the coronavirus vaccines by the middle of September 2021, to choose between retaining their jobs or stay at home.
Permanent Secretary, Edo State Ministry of Health, Dr. Osamuyi Irowa who handed the warning during the daily update on Covid-19 in the state, said, “We don’t want them (teachers) to give covid-19 to the children to take home to their parents”.
Disclosing that three persons died from coronavirus related illness in the last 24 hours. Irowa expressed concern that mortality in the state may continue to rise if residents do not present themselves for vaccination and adhere to protocols.
He said that over 90,000 persons (two per cent) have been vaccinated in the state, adding, “Our target is to continue to increase the percentage to 10 in the next few days.
Irowa said 37 fully vaccinated individuals have contracted the virus. He, however, stated that 34 of them were on home care as “their cases are very mild, while the three others showed more severe pattern of the disease due to morbidity”.
