Daddy Freeze Criticizes Tithing, Calls It Fraud

Media personality Daddy Freeze has sparked heated discussions online after criticizing the practice of paying tithes in churches, likening it to fraud. In a viral video, Daddy Freeze, known for his outspoken views on religious matters, argued that it’s unfair for churches to demand a portion of people’s income. He explained that many churches expect their members to give 10% of their earnings, regardless of how much they make. For example, someone earning N100K is expected to give N10K, and a person earning N40K should pay N4K.

Daddy Freeze went further to label tithing as “yahoo,” a slang for fraud, questioning why people give money to pastors who live lavishly and own private jets. He suggested that instead of paying tithes, people should use their money to help the poor and needy, emphasizing that giving directly to those in need would be a more meaningful act of generosity.

As usual, Daddy Freeze’s comments sparked a mix of reactions. Some agreed with his viewpoint, while others firmly defended the practice of tithing. One commenter, iam__spirit, wrote, “But I dey pay and I dey see workings. It’s better I give it than squander it on unnecessary things. I still bless the poor and needy. My tithe doesn’t stop me from doing that!” Another user, sofiatadeyeye, humorously compared tithing to taxes, saying, “Religion calls it tithe, Government calls it tax… This one’s pass yahoos. It yahoo plus tithe.”

Criticism also came from users who questioned how pastors who benefit from donations live luxurious lifestyles. One commenter, sirminzy, asked, “Do these pastors who are funding their lifestyles from people’s donations pay tithes too? Who do they pay it to?” On the other hand, some defended the right of people to practice their faith as they see fit. One user, mummy_amberley_, commented, “Allow people serve their God how they want to and stop misleading them. Are they paying the tithe with your money?”

The debate around tithing is one that stirs strong emotions on both sides, and Daddy Freeze’s remarks have once again ignited the conversation on whether paying tithes is a spiritual obligation or an exploitative practice.
