Davido Collaborates with UnitedMasters to Launch New Label, Nine+ Records
Nigerian music sensation David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has announced a groundbreaking partnership with US-based distribution company UnitedMasters to establish a new label, Nine+ Records, signaling a significant move in his career trajectory.
In an exclusive interview with Billboard, the ‘Unavailable’ crooner expressed his vision to broaden the label’s scope beyond Afrobeats, aiming to captivate global audiences with diverse music genres.
Davido cited his passion for nurturing emerging talent and his desire to address the challenges faced by young artists in the music industry as key motivations for the collaboration.
“I just felt like that was one thing Steve Stoute represents, and that is helping the artists and making sure they know the best option when it comes to business,” Davido remarked, underscoring the importance of providing guidance and support to budding musicians.
The partnership, described as transformative by UnitedMasters, is poised to revolutionize the African music landscape, leveraging Davido’s influential status to propel the careers of emerging artists to unprecedented heights.
Although Nine+ Records has yet to unveil any artists, Steve Stoute, CEO of UnitedMasters, revealed that the label’s inception was inspired during the 2023 UnitedMasters SelectCon, where he and Davido established a mutual connection.
Stoute emphasized his commitment to empowering Davido and facilitating the label’s future endeavors, stating, “We are here to bring that structure and funding so he can do what he has to do.”
Davido’s venture into the label business began with the establishment of DMW (Davido Music Worldwide) in April 2016, serving as a home to talents such as Mayorkun, Peruzzi, and Dremo. In March, Davido rebranded the label to DMW 2.0 and introduced two new artists, Morravey and Logos Olori, signaling his ongoing dedication to fostering fresh talent in the industry.
